Now that your account is activated, you can sign in to PHPanywhere with your credentials.

Adding an FTP or SFTP server

To be able to do anything in PHPanywhere you must have a FTP or SFTP where you are going to host your files. To do this you need to setup a connection to your FTP server. Click on Server > Add > and fill out our server information (note - you must enter your password regardless if you choose Save Password or not) and click "Accept" when you have finished.

If you typed your information correctly you will notice that your server has been added in the Browser.

    Can't view files in FTP

This can happened if you do not set the Initial dir.

Please set your initial directory in your FTP server settings and you will get your files.

    Start Coding

On your left hand side in the Browser click on your server and you will see a folder tree view. Double click on the file you what to edit and it will open up in the editor.

You can also open multiple files at a time and switch between them using the tab feature of PHPanywhere.

Tools

    File/Folder manipulation

File and folder manipulation is done in two ways, after highlighting the desired object you can either right click on the object, or left click on the File/Folder button at the top of the Browser window. Both ways will give you a list of available manipulation options (Rename, Delete, Cut,...), which will offer clicking on the desired option, do the requested manipulation.

Be careful though, there is no undo for these actions.

    How to use projects?

Projects in PHPanywhere are used to group files that we often edit at the same time, for example a group of files used for a certain project. The point of this is so you don’t have to drill down through your ftp servers to find specific files every time you edit your web site/application.

To create a Project first you must click Projects > Create > Type the Project name > then press Accept. Now that your Project is created double click on it to open the Project (the Project name will bold).

To add files to your open Project, just go to your FTP servers and open the files you wish to add.

Once you opened all the files you wish to add, just close the Project and it will close all the tabs/files you have open, them when you re-open that Project - it will reopen all the files that were in that Project.

    What are Messages?

Messages show up in the Messages window, which is your live log in PHPanywhere; it will post information about your every action in PHPanywhere.

This makes PHPanywhere easier to use because if something goes wrong, you will find a corresponding explanation in the messages window, of course the same goes with successful actions.

The Messages window is located at bottom of the screen, so you can now easily track everything. Also you can always minimize it if you have no need to keep track.
